After the baseball stadium’s incredible success, the owners of Mountainstar Sports Group were ready to build on to its fan base with a temporary home for El Paso’s new USL soccer team. The stadium, after our work, needed to be able to serve a dual purpose and become the home of both El Paso’s Locomotives, the new USL Soccer Team, and the current Triple-A Baseball Team, the El Paso Chihuahuas. This meant that the Ballpark not only has to abide by the regulations set by MiLB, but also USL/FIFA. Our team’s challenge on this project was to creatively incorporate the new soccer field footprint, which ultimately became the biggest driver to the renovation’s asymmetrical design, and support spaces, as part of our Tenant Improvement. Our final design for the Soccer Improvements included, in addition to the field, a retractable pitcher’s mound, a field level bar where we had to cut back stadium seating to make room for the field, a new locker room, a re-branded bar and grill with both teams’ spirit incorporated into the interior design, and a new roof-top bar design, that builds on our region’s incredible climate, and creates a memorable outdoor experience for all fans.
