The project was designated as both an Elementary and Middle School and therefore, separated into two phases. Phase I – site development for both the Elementary and Middle school sites and Phase II – the construction of an 800 student Elementary School. The school was designed as a compact two story 47 classroom building. The school was built on an existing arroyo so it was designed so that the 2nd floor of one classroom wing aligned with the 1st floor of the other wing. The lower grade level classes and major function spaces such as art, science, music, math, computer lab, and living skills/special education; a library/media center, kitchen/cafeteria, a multi-purpose gym, and administrative suite were located on the same floor so that the younger students would not have to travel vertically to get from one place to the other. The site was developed to include parking areas, student pick-up and drop-off lanes, bus staging lanes, playground equipment, tennis/volleyball/ basketball courts and grass football/soccer fields. The Elementary School was designed with a walking path that included a pedestrian bridge that connected the school to a city park.
